These are non-guided
family friendly river rental trips suitable for many parents, kids, and even
grandparents who have had previous paddling experience. Most of the waters we paddle (first trip) is
considered class 1 or below - just enough to wet the adrenaline
appetite. The Wingate trip has plenty of big whitewater and not for the
faint of heart or beginner. We recommend taking the Seattle Creek
Trip before Wingate.
These trips are available
lasting in length from 1 to 7 hours. Actual lengths vary - the more you
paddle the faster you go - the more you stop along the banks, islands,
and gravel bars to explore the slower you travel - you are in control.
Bring a picnic lunch or stop for photos.
Our trips are considered
remote. Most of the trips are away from the highway. On the sections
we float (all trips begin or end at our riverfront resort) the highway
travels over Cade Mountain and the river goes around the base of the
mountain miles and miles away. These trips are known for their scenic
beauty and abundance of wildlife. On these trips you will see deer,
fish, osprey, eagles, herons, foxes, coyotes, bears, and perhaps even
Bigfoot.
Each person issued and required to wear
PFD at all times.
Each person must know how to swim and
capable of a self rescue. Each person must have had previous paddling experience.
Participants on Wingate Trip (class 3) must be "very strong" swimmers
and had previous whitewater kayak experience to take this trip.
All participants will be required to sign
a participation agreement & waiver. Do not participate in these
trips if you are unsure of the risks or unwilling to accept the
inherent risks associated with this water activity.
TIPS FOR A BETTER TRIP
Wear proper footwear - river sandals or
tennis shoes
Bring plenty of water
Wear sunscreen and a hat
Wear long shorts so no sunburn on inner
thighs
Wear long sleeve river shirt
Bring a timepiece (watch)
Bring a cell phone - Verizon has a signal
in Happy Camp - not guaranteed on all place on river.
Week or no signal downriver from Happy Camp.
Bellyak renters should wear long sleeve water shirts or wetsuits as one is in the water most of the time and much more likely to brush on rocks and spill and ride rapids as you will push your limits trying to surf and spin in rapids. Helmets are also required which we will provide.
